The remains of the old OZ Barge floating around the edge of the outer space colonies seemed at first glance to be completely empty. Barren. There were holes in some parts of it, and a large chunk of it seemed to be missing. Yet if one were to look inside the carcass of this once great military space station, they would see that within the inside there still lay a few floors sealed off, with auxiliary power running a little bit of warmth, some oxygen, and some dim lights.
Kevin stood within the core of the ruins of the Barge, his armored suit giving him the warmth and oxygen to keep alive, despite the thin air and mild warmth in the room around him. In his arms, he held the remains of his brother, Azrael.
Why did you do this, brother? Kevin thought as he looked at the burnt skull, devoid of whatever handsomeness his brother was once known for. You were an idol. You had power... there was so much you could have done. Why end it all? I know the strength you have within yourself. You wouldn't do this without a good reason. What could finally BREAK you? That strong mind and heart that stood steadfast against so much evil and horror throughout the years?
He let out a sigh as he gazed sadly at the remains. "There was a time I thought I would gloat on this day, brother. Instead...all I can feel is a sadness...a loneliness...and a great sense of longing. Did we truly have to be rivals? Could we have been...true brothers...had you but escaped the laboratory?" He lowered his head and shook it sadly. "I'll never understand why you did it...why youu would lay down and die after you spared me and give me a new chance."
Kevin lifted his head and marched down the hall towards a sealed door. "But I will not let your remains be buried under the tombstone for others to mock and spit on. You will not be dug up and examined. Your body will not be violated for the sake of 'science' or any such nature...the only safety I can give you brother, is the void." He lifted his boot and hit a button. The doors slid open, and the vacuum of space sucked rocks and trash around Kevin out, but he stood firm on the ground with his magnetic boots.
"Farewell, my father..." Kevin said softly. "May you find the peace in death, that you were denied in life...." He tossed his brother's body out into space, and watched as it slowly floated away, then disappeared into the vast darkness. Punching the button to close the doors, Kevin felt sick to his stomach. He'd seen too many funerals...
...and this was the worst.
